Kalkan is a stunning hillside town with a beautiful blue bay. It offers many opportunities to travellers. One can swim in Kalkan’s bay, go on a boat trip, visit the nearby beaches of Kaputas or Patara, go to Saklikent Gorge, enjoy the ruins at Patara or Xanthos, frequent the town’s Thursday market for some fresh produce and souvenirs, seek out the smaller villages nearby to get a sense of Turkish life. The options do not stop there!
Kalkan was once an Ottoman-Greek fishing village called Kalamaki and there are still flavours of this distinctive architecture in the town today. The stone streets and shuttered windows conjure images of the town half a century ago. It is a very sweet place with a relaxing atmosphere. It offers a variety of wonderful restaurants to visit as well as fine cafes and nice pubs in which to enjoy a beverage. There are a number of places to go for a night out as well.
